President of the Presque Isle High School National Honor Society
PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle High School National Honor Society takes great pride in representing our school. By meeting the four pillars of the National Honor Society, as we call them; scholarship, service, leadership, and character, PIHS National Honor Society students work hard to maintain good grades, be well-rounded citizens, and volunteer within the community.
This year I have had the honor of being our chapter’s president. Not only have I been able to attend conventions in our region, but I also attended the state convention in Bangor, which provides a great way to meet fellow NHS students from around the state and hear terrific speakers. Most importantly, I have had the pleasure of becoming more involved in my community.
Every year on the first Friday of December, the Presque Isle NHS holds a Red Cross Blood Drive that truly is gratifying to be involved in. This year, we were able to produce 100 pints of blood. It is an activity that has tangible benefits to our community.
We also participate in helping out at the Special Olympics, and coming up Sunday, April 26, our entire NHS will be involved in an MS Walk. Not only does our chapter contribute to the local community, but in addition, we help a great deal around the state. Every year schools with National Honor Society programs from around the state decide to donate to one specific organization. This year we chose the Make a Wish Foundation. Participants in the PIHS NHS drew posters, and placed them around the school advertising for donations, and placed jars around the lunchroom where kids could donate. This process proved to be quite successful and the Presque Isle High School NHS donated $125 to the Make A Wish Foundation.
This is just a brief summary of the many activities that are such an integral part of the National Honor Society experience. Being president of our National Honor Society has been one of the most gratifying experiences I have had in high school.
