Limestone School Committee unanimously approves funding for Destination Imagination teams

    LIMESTONE — Members of the Limestone School Committee met on April 13 for a 14-point agenda at the Limestone Community School (LCS), which covered a variety of topics from SATs to basketball camp.     It was announced that Ryan Deprey has resigned as the boys varsity basketball coach and Superintendent Frank McElwain accepted the letter of resignation by Jennifer Ayer, speech pathologist, effective at the end of the 2008-09 school year.
    The board voted unanimously in favor of approving a $7,000 loan and $3,000 of funding for the Destination Imagination teams at LCS. Destination Imagination elementary and middle level teams won states and have advanced to the World Finals, which will be held in Knoxville, Tenn. later this May.
    Michael McCormick, CPE for McCormick Facilities Management Consultants, presented his final report to the school committee that included the results of the Limestone public forums and his recommendations.
    The School Committee unanimously voted in favor to approve the mass communication system.
    During the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. McElwain discussed School Regionalization and the energy performance contract.
    The Principal’s Report discussed a half-day on May 8, the Breakfast Book Club, the Destination Imagination teams, and the state of baseball and softball teams.
    The report announced that May 8 will be a half-day for students so that teacher may work on accreditation; though committees have been working weekly, an additional half-day is necessary to complete needed research and development of standard narratives.
    Finally, the Limestone School Committee voted unanimously to approve $400 to fund the Eagle Pride Basketball Camp.
    The next meting of the Limestone School Committee will be on May 11, at 7 p.m. at the LCS.
