The Union 122 Girls’ Middle School Softball Team (consisting of the towns of New Sweden, Woodland and Stockholm) finished their season 9 – 0 this year. They were coached by Tom and Jill Plante. The girls battled their way into an undefeated season. With an infield filled with eighth graders, it was hard for any team to penetrate the defense. Offensively, they were just as tough. “Stepping up to the plate meant they were going to hit” coach Plante said. Everyone was able to connect with the ball. The team was made up of six girls in the eighth grade. “With Little League, Rec / Summer League experience and the knowledge and fun these girls show toward the game of softball, it comes as no surprise they did as well as they did,” said coach Plante. “It has certainly been an enjoyable season to watch these girls play. Wherever these girls end up, I am confident they will contribute to the success of the teams for which they play.”
These girls will be going to the Caribou High School next year. Eight grade students include: Kristin Plante (catcher/infield), Katelynn Bubar (pitcher/infield) Jordyn Doucette (pitcher/catcher/infield), Victoria Bouchard (outfield/infield), Kelsey Espling (infield), and Amber Peterson (infield). Rounding out the team were Erin McBreairty (infield), Autumn Kavin (outfield), Courtney Cote (outfield), Cortney Ziegler (outfield), Desarae Chamberland (outfield), Desarae Belanger (outfield), Jaeda Gonzalez (outfield), and Molly Cummings (outfield).
