To the editor:
Recently, while on walk about in my garden weeding and trimming, I happen to notice multiple cuttings of my tulips along our front wall. It wasn’t just the two dozen flowers that were taken, but the leaves as well; which basically means that this person has more than likely destroyed the plants’ ability to restore themselves. A flower stalk here and there may be understandable, but still never-the-less offensive, the flowers and plants are pretty and enjoyed by lots of people traveling on Main Street. I know this, due to the kind comments we receive every growing season.
Every year, people share with us how the color and variety makes their day just a little bit brighter while either coming or going to work, or just simply out for a ride or a walk. It is all these kind comments that add to that, “make it worthwhile” feeling.
Maybe I should be grateful you didn’t just yank them all out and make a big mess for me to clean up, instead you actually had a pair of scissors handy to do a clean job of it! Thank you?
It is however, destruction of our personal property. Instead of “all” having the enjoyment of our flowers, there is just one person enjoying them in a vase in their home for a much shorter period of time. Your thoughtlessness and selfishness has taken away from us and everyone else that enjoys the flowers along our wall.
