HOULTON — A convicted 31-year-old sex offender was cooling his heels in the Aroostook County Jail on a domestic violence-related charge when he faced new charges last Wednesday — allegedly trafficking in Schedule Z and Schedule W drugs.
Image   Charles Frank Dorr, according to Police Chief Butch Asselin, is charged with dealing in marijuana and prescription narcotics. Dorr’s activities were under investigation for several weeks and not related to the domestic violence charge, according to police. However, Houlton Police Department officers and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) accelerated their investigation during his incarceration. And agents obtained a warrant to search Dorr’s Kelleran Street residence last week for records of any drug-related trafficking. Asselin confirmed that a number of items including a computer were seized for analysis.
Asselin said he appreciated the work of MDEA, Police Officer Jared Sylvia and Carolyn Crandall in the investigation that led to Dorr’s arrest on the drug charges. “I’m just glad he’s off the streets.”
And, he’s not the only one. A Kelleran Street resident who asked to not be identified for safety reasons agrees. “I’m glad something was done because there was a lot of traffic at night. I knew there were drugs being dealt out of that house.”
Image     Asselin declined comment on what precipitated the investigation or whether anyone else is under suspicion. A red mini-van, parked at an angle, still sits in front of Dorr’s residence where window blinds are drawn and a sliding glass door is draped from inside keeping any secrets hidden from prying eyes.
