The Maine Women’s Policy Center announced the appointment of Kathleen Willette to the Linda Smith Dyer Fellowship, a ten-week, summer, public interest law position. As the Linda Smith Dyer Fellow, Willette is responsible for research and strategic development of the Maine Women’s Policy Center public policy initiatives on such issues as equal pay, paid family and medical leave insurance, and protections for survivors of violence.
The Linda Smith Dyer Fellowship was founded in 2002 by the Maine Women’s Policy Center, the Maine Women’s Lobby, the University of Maine School of Law, and Smith-Dyer’s family to honor her devotion to the public interest and to honor her skills in public policy.
“We’re delighted to welcome Kathy to the Maine Women’s Policy Center,” said Sarah Standiford, executive director. “Kathy brings a wealth of practical experience working on the intersections of family and child development, along with keen analytical skills, and a strong commitment to public policy. Maine policymakers and advocates—and ultimately, all Maine women and girls—will benefit by the results of her policy analysis and development this summer.”
Willette was raised in Northern Maine, the youngest of five daughters. She attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Child Development & Family Relationships. She is currently pursuing her J.D. at the University of Maine School of Law with hopes of becoming an advocate for women and families. Willette enjoys swimming, boating, cooking, and is currently learning how to drive her motorcycle.
