The little town that could

To the editor:
    It is with great pride that I thank the extremely dedicated people of Portage Lake from those far and near and young and old that participated in the Portage Lake Centennial. 

    The efforts have lasted over a year beginning with the completion of a cookbook sharing local delicious recipes to a calendar of monthly pictures reflecting the decades of the town to a wonderful historical book of stories of events and family histories.
    From July 4th to July 11th, the town of Portage Lake was booming with activities never before seen by its residents. It would be impossible to thank all who were responsible for the week’s spectacular events. I can say that the fireworks of half an hour could have matched any big city show, it was just magnificent. Thank you to those who contributed to the show.
    The organization of the week’s events in addition to the final weekend events brought hundreds of people to “the little town that could.” The breakfast, the pig roast, and other functions of great food and treats, the auctions, the Survivor of Gabon, the dances, the individual family gatherings, and more and more that will be the new introduction for the next “Portage Lake: History and Hearsay.” May the next generations enjoy this beautiful little town and never forget its humble past.
