CASTILLE, N.Y. – Joe Mahany, 84, died on July 17, 2009, at his home in Castille, New York, the son of Eldon and Delia (Long) Mahany. He was born in August 1924.
Joe grew up in the River de Chute part of Easton, attended the rural, one room Mahany School, graduated from Easton High School and attended Madawaska Training School. Joe married Jeannette Milliard of Fort Fairfield in 1944. He farmed for several years in Easton and New York State, then worked for the Department of Labor in New York. He was manager of the Employment Office of Wyoming County when he retired after 30 years of service. Joe was a Civil War History buff, a faithful Catholic and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Joe was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Vincent.
He is survived by his wife; children, John Joseph Jr., Thomas, David, Michael and Colleen; several grandchildren; four of his siblings, Patrick Mahany of Arkport, NY, Gertrude Thompson of Seattle, Sr. Joyce Mahana, RSM, of Standish, Murray Mahany of Arkport, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
