The 21st annual Charity Challenge Golf Tournament will go down in history as the wettest in the history of the tournament. Over an inch of rain July 18 in Limestone and a cloud burst on July 19 on Long Lake in Madawaska didn’t dampen the spirits of the hearty golfers.
BIKE RACE WINNERS – Among the winning bicyclists taking part in the July 19 Spudcycle Classic bike races were, in front from left, Grant Stewart, Loretta Harmon, Frances Prest, Devin Higgins and James Wolhsemutz. Middle row, Corey Park, Jake Stevens, Alexis Coiley, Cassidy Coiley, Austin Doody, Morgann Towle and Von Perry. Back row, Marcel Bastide, volunteers Kim Parent, Kelsey King, April Flagg and Bill Flagg and Paul Magoon. The annual bicyling event was held in conjunction with the Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield.
The foursome of Jim Violette, Mark Violette, Mike Rioux and Roy Michaud, all of Fort Kent, swept both tourneys at Limestone Country Club.
Eighty battled the elements July 18 at LCC, with the Fort Kent foursome shooting 6-under par over the first nine holes and 4-under on the back nine to come out on top. Low net in the morning tourney went to Pete Weatherhead, Craig Phair, Chris Richards and Judy Dombroski.
The afternoon net winners were Dean Brakel, Ryan Jones, Mike Verdecchia and Ed Desjarlais, all of Limestone.
The money raised from the event benefits Aroostook County Special Olympics.
