Sesquicentennial Celebration Center now open

    With Caribou’s Sesquicentennial Parade extravaganza just around the corner on Saturday. Sept. 5, and other events taking place this weekend through next week, committee members have gathered all of those wonderful old photos which have been on display most of the year  in  and around the city and placed them all in one location along with the book on Caribou’s history and other commemorative items that are still available for purchase.

    The newly organized Sesquicentennial Celebration Center, located in the downtown mall, which will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning today, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 6, will be manned by Sesquicentennial volunteers. The site offers visitors a chance to view more than 40 reproduced old photos as well as purchase items commemorating Caribou’s 150 birthday. Volunteers include: Doris Smith, Barb Collins, Lee and Arlene Doody, Roberta Walton, Rex Wyman, Dave and Dot Wakem and Bob and Margaret Cyr. Also: Bob Mockler, Wendy Landes, Jenny Coon and Debbie Sirois, Assisting with the opening of the Celebration Center were Caribou Mayor Ken Murchison and Steve Buck, city manager.

    The Sesquicentennial Celebration Center, which will be open beginning today, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Featured items at the Celebration Center will include John Holub prints, mugs, hooded sweatshirts, crewneck sweatshirts, T-shirts and the collector book, “Caribou, Maine: The First 150 Years.
    Visitors at the Celebration Center will also be able to access information regarding upcoming events, dates and times as well as take time to peruse more than 40 old photos displayed on the walls. The center will be manned by volunteers who encourage everyone to pass the word about this location.
    The Sesquicentennial Celebration Center is located in the downtown mall in the spaces formerly occupied by Radio Shack/Rainbow Books and Crafts. This is the same location where the food venue was held during last winter’s ski event, Dash for Cash.
