Firefighter I/Rescue Team member Bud Skidgel, 42, is an 18-year paid-call veteran at the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. “I became involved with the fire department because I wanted to make use of my skills and talents — I enjoy helping to protect the property of others,” said the firefighter. A resident of Caribou, Firefighter Bud works as a large equipment operator for Boralex in Ashland, is Dad to two grown sons, Adam and Ryan and he enjoys four-wheeling and mud-running in his free time. He is a fan of Rock n’ Roll, however he also confessed that his least favorite type of music is Country Western.
Given the opportunity to enlighten community residents regarding what being a member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department involves, Firefighter Bud stated, “ I feel that the public only sees a part of the time and effort that goes into becoming a firefighter.”
“If I could change perceptions, I would gladly invite anyone from the public to watch a demonstration of our rescue team during one of our many trainings. This would help them to understand just how complex the work is that we do, ”stated the Firefighter/Rescue Team member.
