Caribou – Marjorie G. Giggie, 83, wife of the late Colie E. Giggie, passed away peacefully at a Caribou nursing facility with family at her side, on September 26, 2009. Born in Caribou, July 26, 1926, Marjorie was the daughter of Adelbert and Marie (Hardacker) Sutherland.
Marjorie will long be remembered as a secretary at Gouldville Elementary School in Presque Isle where she worked for over 20 years before retiring in 2001. She particularly enjoyed writing, often submitting letters to the paper under her pen name "Grace Shay." She was also very fond of cooking, often creating savory meals without opening a cookbook. Marjorie particularly took pride in her family, taking care of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and living the life on the family farm.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Colie Giggie in 1996; a brother, Roland in 1925; a sister, Gretchen Gallant in 2009; a sister, Margaret Turner in 2004; and a daughter, Lois Dow in 1990. She is survived by brothers, Hayden Sutherland and Willis Sutherland of Caribou, Russell Sutherland of St. Petersburg,FL, and Stanley Sutherland of Hebron, Connecticut; sisters, Esther Page and Bertha "Betty" Branscomb of Caribou, Eugenia Gardner of Portage Lake, and Judith Greenier of Cross Lake. She is also survived by three sons, Elbridge Giggie and Jeffrey Giggie, both of Presque Isle, and Gregory Giggie of Lubec; six grandchildren, James Dow of Norfolk, Virginia, Deborah Estey and her husband Scott of Mapleton, Matthew Dow and his wife Heidi of E. Plantation, Gregory Giggie II of Old Town, and Melissa Dyer and her husband Brent, and Jason Giggie, both of Presque Isle; and six great- grandchildren, Katie and Jeffrey Dow, Madagan and Emerson Dow, and Elizabeth and Amelia Dyer.
Relatives and friends called at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 29th, at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church on Fleetwood St. in Presque Isle, with Rev. Ron Chaffee officiating. Interment was in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. A very special thank you from the family goes out to the nurses and entire staff at the Caribou Nursing Home.
