‘Baby Ray’ Lericos checked to see how full the barrel was while picking potatoes with the Girl Scouts this fall.

Farm owners Dan and ‘Mrs. Dan’ (Bonnie) Thibodeau generously welcomed a few Girl Scouts to their farm to pick potatoes this past season to raise funds for their yearly activities. For two Saturdays, the girls harvested a nice income for their various events while taking part in the tradition of the hand-picked harvest going on in the County. The girls also got to see the workings of a potato digger and barrel hoisting farm operations done the way it used to be.

Friends and family recruited to help included Dave McCrossin, Amanda Lericos and “Baby Ray” Lericos, Kyle McCrossin, Gerry Nadeau, Shelia and Gee Caron and Andy Robinson. Pete and Debbie Rahe also joined the group to help pick for Troop 040 and Jazmine Robinson spent her fourth birthday picking with the girls from Troop 016. Abbey and Riley McNeal also contributed to the harvesting funds by assisting the scouts.
A hot dog roast was provided at the end of the day by Troop 040 and “Top Chef” Gerry Nadeau.
With assistance of the funds raised through potato picking, the girls take an annual trip to an amusement park in Portland/Saco, take part is sleepovers, and help defray membership costs. In the past, the Girl Scouts have also used some of the funds to attend Girl Scout Camp Natarswi at Baxter State Park. Occasionally, they’ll enjoy a pizza party or other festive meals.
