To the editor:

The Oakfield Historical Society has had a very successful summer. Many thanks need to go out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Alberta McDonald, who has done a fantastic job organizing the summer’s events.     On the 18th of July, we held the annual Railfan Day Celebration which was a huge success even if it did rain – the biggest crowd ever. The spirits were high and much fun was had by everyone because of the endless and creative imagination of Alberta. She not only thought of interesting things for the adults to enjoy that day, but had many exciting things for the children to do, from playing marbles, decorating cookies, attending a magic show, coloring contests, clown entertainment, etc. The day ended with a baked bean supper at the Community Center and music being provided by talented folks from Bridgewater, Houlton, Patten and Sherman. A huge thank-you also goes out to these musicians who volunteered their services. Railfan Days can be summarized as a day of rekindling great friendships and memories, eating delicious food, enjoying great music and having fun.
The volunteers that helped at the Railroad Museum this summer were fantastic. Everyone was so cooperative and willing to do anything that was asked of them. There are too many names to mention in fear of forgetting someone. Your work has not gone unnoticed. You are GREAT people. On September 12, Alberta organized a cookout to show appreciation to the volunteers for their time they gave this summer to the museum.
Alberta has revitalized many memories of the Railroad Days – from suitcases sitting on the platform by the station to cookies, doughnuts, coffee and drinks being served in the caboose. The caboose was a BIG HIT for the children. Alberta is already thinking of ideas for next summer – keep your ears and eyes open!
Thanks a million!
