What other political offices have you held? If none, what other offices, honors or titles have you earned? “I have been involved in various areas of church leadership for the past 15 years and for two years was the co-director of the “It’s All About Choices” after-school program.”
What is your career background? “I have worked with youth for 35 years from coaching gymnastics to administration of programs such as Ride to Walk, Cowboys for Christ, and as the co-director of the Choices After-school program in partnership with Communities in Schools and the Grant Joint Unified School District. I am presently employed as executive administrator for the Military St. Baptist Church and am the community relations coordinator for the Adopt-A-Block Program.
Why did you decide to run for this office? “I decided to run for office because I felt led to do so.”
What do you see as the most important issue facing SAD 29? “I am sure there are many important issues facing SAD 29, but as in every community across this nation one of the most important issues facing teen-agers today is the ever-increasing drug and alcohol problem. With all of the pressures on teenagers, such as school, family and for most, jobs, it is hard for them to balance their lives without feeling overwhelmed. Teenagers see drugs and alcohol as a way out of these pressures, and a relief from the feelings associated with them. When we look at doing everything we can to raise awareness and to create prevention in our schools, it may make a difference in their lives.”
What do you see as your primary goal, if elected? ” My primary goal is to see our school board work together with the community and families to identify core moral and civic values that need to be seen, taught and modeled in all aspects of school life.”
Why should people vote for you? “I want to focus more on what brings us together than the things that separate us, if you agree with this then I would appreciate your vote when we go to the polls.”
