CARIBOU – The Aroostook County grand jury completed its two-day November 2009 session returning 56 indictments against 55 different persons. Among those making the list was Jamie L. Sloan, 31, of Presque Isle, who was indicted for domestic violence terrorizing stemming from an Aug. 27 incident. The Presque Isle Police Department were contacted on that date by Sloan’s girlfriend, also of Presque Isle, who requested to speak to an officer about an alleged physical threat Sloan made toward her, following the breakup of their relationship. Officer Kevin Reed was assigned to investigate. Sloan was believed to be en route from southern Aroostook. A dispute over the couple’s children led police to believe Sloan might attempt to retrieve his daughters. Police issued a BOLO (be on the lookout), advising officers to make an arrest for domestic violence terrorizing, should he be located.
Sloan later called Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, PIPD. Sloan reportedly told police when he arrived in Presque Isle, “officers would have to shoot” him to stop him. Selfridge received subsequent calls from Sloan from a Newport gas station. According to Selfridge, Sloan reportedly indicated he had a gun and began making threats to use the weapon on himself. Newport and Maine State Police units responded to the Newport facility but did not locate Sloan. Contact continued between Sloan and Selfridge, with Sloan reportedly advising he was at another service station in Westfield, Mass. A phone trace confirmed his whereabouts and Westfield officers were notified and eventually located and arrested Sloan. No weapon was located at the time of his arrest. He was charged with domestic violence terrorizing, a Class C felony, and was scheduled for a hearing in Superior Court in Caribou on Dec. 7.
