Just nine days remain in the regular season for local girls teams, and despite Saturday’s loss to John Bapst, the Caribou girls are still in decent position to get into the post-season. The Vikes are in eighth place in Eastern Maine Class B entering Thursday’s game at home against Fort Kent.
Caribou, with its 8-6 record, remains ahead of Big East Conference foes John Bapst, Hermon and Mattanawcook in the standings.
Only the top-10 teams qualify for the tournament.
The Washburn girls are ranked fourth in EM Class D with their 10-4 record. The top 10 also make the post-season in this division.
Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:
John Bapst 33, Caribou 17 – At Caribou Saturday, Paige Martin scored eight points as John Bapst of Bangor earned the road victory.
Jenna Selander scored seven points to pace Caribou, which trailed 11-9 at halftime but were outscored 22-8 the rest of the way.
Washburn 67, GHCA 32 – At Washburn last Tuesday, Becca Campbell poured in 28 points to spark Washburn by Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
Rayah Saucier chipped in with 13 points for the Beavers.
Mariah Wiley scored 15 points to pace GHCA.
