PITTSBURGH and HOULTON – Anna C. Shupe, 93, joyfully praising her Lord and Savior, went to eternal rest on March 16, 2010. She was born Anna Cecilia Rosalia, to Walter Joseph and Josephine (Matella) Wrobleski on April 22, 1916 in Pittsburg, PA, where she lived all of her life until 1999 when she migrated North to Houlton to live with her son.
Following the death of her first husband, she worked at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Pittsburg where she met her second husband, who was Works Comptroller.
Anna was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Pittsburgh and of St. Mary of the Visitation Church in Houlton, the Polish Women's Alliance and the Polish National Alliance.
She is survived by her son, John Michael "Jack" Galda and his wife, Pamela Mae (Frame), her daughter-in-law and the mother of all of the grandchildren, Barbara Lee (Kifer) Galda; five precious grandchildren and ten great grandchildren are among those who will miss her: Susan Elizabeth (Galda) and Thomas John Dougherty IV, her daughter Nicole Lee McCann and their daughter, Anya Marie Dougherty, Jeffrey Nathaniel and Lisa Joy (Goldstein) Galda, and their children, Zachary Joseph and Justin Aaron Galda, Andrew Daniel and Sharon Ann (O'Donnell) Galda and their children, Daniel Patrick, Leigh-Ann Maura, Alex Jeffery and Jason Scott Galda, David Anthony Galda all of NJ, Joseph Paul and Ginger (Schroeder) Galda of N.Y. and their children, Lauren Marie and Joseph Paul Galda of NJ, with special regard to the children's mother, Regina Marie (Shaffer) Galda: her sister, Mary Agnes Prus; her nephews, Dr. Jan and Francette (Campanelli) Wrobleski, Dr. Gregg and Catherine (Butaugh of Millinocket) Wrobleski, Robert and Patricia (Petruska) Drogowski, Dr. Edward and Suzanne (Lesser) Prus, their families and the wife of nephew Robert, Pamela (Marcinak) Wrobleski and their family; nieces, Lorraine (Prus) and William Hixon, Lucille (Prus) and Peter Lamy, Henrietta (Drogowski) and Regis Segada and their families. Anna's friends and family in Houlton included Dorothy Frame, Robert Frame, Shawn Snell, Pastor Marilyn Rohdin, and Linda Goodridge. Her "Angels" in Pittsburgh were the family of Dorothy and Ernest Choy, who provided for her every need before she moved North. Her caregivers at the Gardiner Health Care Facility and Dr. Sussman are so very much appreciated. The Fathers of St. Mary's Church have provided more blessings than they know, and their vigilance and prayers have not gone unnoticed. She is predeceased by her husband, Zygmont Joseph Galda and Jesse Clinton Shupe; her son, Joseph Anthony Galda; her sister, Stella Laura Drogowski, as well as brother-in-law, Bernard, her brother, Dr. Joseph Walter Wrobleski, as well as sister-in-law, Pauline (Kwasny); her nephew, Robert Paul Wrobleski; her brother-in-law, Joseph Prus; her step-children, Zetta (Shupe) Sylvain, Leslie A. Shupe, and Lewis H. Shupe.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 19, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton and was officiated by Deacon Al Burleigh. Interment will be at St. Mary's of the Visitation Cemetery.
