RELEASE PARTY — Travis James Humphrey will celebrate the release of his new, 10-song album “Dirty Beautiful World” Sunday with a release party at Northern Musical Supply in Houlton.
A native of Houlton, Humphrey is the newest recording artist to represent Nashville-based Pickers Pride Records. He teamed with Woodland native and Nashville guitarist Johnny Hiland, as well as Nashville Ninja Management to create his compilation. The project was mastered by Grammy Award winner Richard Dodd and produced by Hiland, who also performs guitar, bass and keyboards on the album for Humphrey’s vocals.
“This project is a true collaboration with Johnny, and I hope his vision will act as my endorsement when I start spending more time in Nashville, beginning this September,” Humphrey said. “My goal is to secure a songrwriting position that will provide a larger, national audience for my material.”
The outdoor event is free and will feature hot dogs, popcorn, beverages, sweets and a mini-concert. A $50 gift certificate to Northern Musical Supply will be raffled at the end of the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, as Humphrey will perform acoustic versions of his new songs. In a tradition that he began with his first solo album, Humphrey will donate the initial $500 of revenue from his newest project to the Houlton Humane Society.
“The Humane Society operates on a shoestring, and the staff does a very fine job of caring for the animals, so I just want to help,” he said. “I’m not financially wealthy, but I have been very fortunate, and it is our responsibility to look after our animals. I also believe if you send out good energy, it will come back to you. I want to offer something back to the community that supported me. Right now, it’s a hot dog barbecue and a benefit for the animal shelter. Maybe later, if I achieve a bigger level of success, I can do more. Either way, it would be terrific to see some folks from home.”
