Weekly womens and mens league play is now under way at Presque Isle Country Club. There is a six-way tie for top honors in the Ladies Twilight League with the following teams taking 2 points after the opening week of action: Nancy Carvell/Alexis Madore, Dianne Robertson/Ann Sirois, Francine Soucy/Margaret Violette, Sandra Carter/Betty Deveau, Chris Corsello/Joy Davis, and Wanetta Busse/Myrna McKeen.
Posting the lowest scores in the scramble format competition June 7 were Betty Deveau and Marie Waddell, 36; Alexis Madore and Nancy Carvell, 37; and Kathy Maynard/Sue Black, Chris Corsello/Joy Davis and Francine Soucy/Margaret Violette, all at 41.
In Mens Twilight League action on June 8, no less than 14 teams share first place with 3 total points after two weeks of play. Posting the lowest scores during Week 2 were Dan Hotham and Curt Culberson at 37, Chris Coffin at 38, Jon Humphrey at 39, and John Cole at 40. Steve Hanning was closest to the pin on the eighth hole at 8 feet, 8.5 inches; while Scott Violette dropped his drive 5 feet, 1 inch from the 16th hole for best shot of the day.
The Monday Morning Golf Group played June 7 at PICC with the foursome of Don Chase, Glenn Carson, Jim Berry and Steve Sweetser firing a plus 6 while Greg Thompson, Charlie Violette, Harold Clark and Elbridge Judkins finished at minus 3. Low scores for the day were recorded by Jim Carter, 83; Harold Clark, 84; Glenn Carson, 85; and Elton Thibodeau and Charlie Violette, both 86.
The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Tyler Grant and Chandler Guerrette for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of June 1-5.
Grant was cited for his display of sportsmanship at the state track and field championship meet in Windham.
Guerrette scored four runs in the PI softball team’s win over Caribou.
Student athletes selected as athletes of the week receive a large, one-item pizza, courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield will host junior-adult golf nights June 17, July 8 and 29 and Aug. 5.
This is a nine-hole event with a meal and prizes to follow. Any golfer 18 years of age and younger is considered a junior golfer and therefore is eligible to play. The cost is $10 for juniors and $12 for adult members and $23 for adult non-members.

The Amateur Softball Association’s Class D district men’s slo-pitch softball tournament will be held June 18-20 in Caribou.

The Northern Maine Figure Skating Club will offer skating at the Forum in Presque Isle June 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29. Basic skills, hockey and advanced packages are available.

The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club is pleased to bring back to Presque Isle the Boston-based rock and blues band Ernie and the Automatics. The Automatics will be live in concert on Friday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in the PIHS Auditorium.
The band returns to Presque Isle in support of its new CD “Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades.”
Local group Common Crossing will open the show.
Tickets are $15 each and now available at Bradley’s Citgo, the Aroostook Centre Mall and Aroostook Music.
