Soucy awarded Haystack Historical Society inaugural scholarship

    Diane Pratt, president of the Haystack Historical Society, presented a $250 scholarship to Presque Isle High School senior Ashley Soucy of Mapleton during Class Day 2010 held at the high school. Ashley will attend the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in music education. This is the first time the Historical Society has awarded a scholarship to a graduating senior and the organization is very proud to be part of the more than $170,000 in scholarship money awarded to this year’s graduating class at PIHS.

    The public is encouraged to visit the museum on Saturday, June 26 during the Mapleton Daze festivities for the annual homemade pie and ice cream fund raiser. There will be a special display this year of the Pythian Sisters by Gertrude Christie. The Pythian Sisters were once a very active service club in Mapleton and through their generosity helped many local people in need.

Mapleton Daze Parade

This is the last chance to register for the Mapleton Daze parade that will be held this Saturday, June 26 at 9:30 a.m. Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade is asked to call Jolene Blake at 764-0980 to reserve a spot in the lineup.

Duncans leading Vacation Bible School

The Mapleton United Baptist Church is pleased to announce that Josh and Melanie Duncan will be leading Vacation Bible School again this year. Both Josh and Melanie have much experience in youth ministry ranging from summer camps and Sunday School to Vacation Bible Schools and, for Josh, as a youth pastor.
This year’s Vacation Bible School will be held at the Mapleton Baptist Church July 19-23 from 12:30-3 p.m. with a closing program Friday, July 23 at 3 p.m. All children ages 4-10 are welcome to attend. Older youth are encouraged to volunteer as helpers.

Mapleton United Methodist Church luncheon

The United Methodist Church will host its weekly luncheon on Friday, June 25 at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Silent Auction ends Saturday

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club will hold a silent auction during the month of June. The auction will be held as a fundraiser for the new clubhouse now being built on the Town Hall Road site. The auction items will be available for final bids this week. Look for posters in town for a list of the items up for bid. The bids will be awarded this Saturday, June 26 at 3 p.m. at the gazebo. The items will also be on display throughout Mapleton Daze. Please call Sue Maynard at 764-1236 if you have something to donate for the auction. Remember to also support the club at the annual breakfast that morning.

Family Night

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will host their weekly family night at the church on Friday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m.  Come enjoy a free night of family entertainment!
