top PIHS senior athletes
PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle High School spring athletic awards night was held June 7, with members of the JV and varsity softball teams, JV and varsity baseball teams, varsity tennis teams and varsity track and field teams recognized for their participation during the recently-completed sports season.
The senior athlete awards are voted by the senior class and were presented at the June 10 Class Day. This year’s recipients are Nate Ackerson and Hallie Bartlett. Ackerson competed in soccer and basketball during his four-year career, while Bartlett was involved in cross country, skiing and track and field.
At the awards night, JV softball coach Peter Coffin presented certificates to freshmen Laurin Ackerson, Amanda Bagley, Liza Buck, Megan Ireland, Brooke Lovely, Allisa McDougal, Katelyn McPherson, Madison Michaud, Chelsea Munson and Kailey Shaw and sophomores Jessica Dumais, Katie Patenaude, Lauren Rand and manager Haley Smith.

JV baseball coach James York presented certificates to freshmen Corey Belanger, Cody Flannery, Kyle Goupille, Griffen Lovely, Houston Putnam, Adam Flynn and manager Dale Winslow; sophomores Dylan Elliott, Quinn Graves, Ryley Norton, Jacob Player, Josh Reed, Brett Wilson and Evan Waddell; and junior Billy Paradis.
Girls varsity tennis coach Monica Bearden handed out certificates to freshman Kayla Girardin and sophomores Bethany Beckwith, Chelsey Carroll and Elise Jones; first-year letters to sophomores Melissa Carson and Kathryn Sharp and senior Deidre Dicker; second-year letters to sophomore Dani Wolland, juniors Divya Bisht and Lindsay Michaud and senior Kailee Ireland; and a fourth-year letter to senior Madelyn Carson.
Boys varsity tennis coach Sam Picard gave certificates to freshmen Drew Barrett, Hayden Dow and Logan Dumais and juniors Brandan Jeter and Andrew Legassie; first-year letters to freshmen Osman Mendieta-Castro and manager Eric Freeman; juniors Brock Cassidy and Emerson Mendieta-Castro and senior Zowa Nnazor; a second-year letter to sophomore Connor Shaw; third-year letters to juniors Caleb Mathers and Mike Picard and senior Kyle Gilson; and a fourth-year letter to senior Chris Cawley.
Varsity softball coach Alan Curtis and his assistant, Brian Cronin, presented certificates to freshmen Laurin Ackerson, Megan Ireland and Kailey Shaw and sophomore manager Hillary Albert. First-year letters went to freshmen Karlee Bernier and Chandler Guerrette and sophomores Courtney Colligan and Jessica Theriault; second-year letters to sophomore Kayla Richards, junior Rilee Elliott-Currie and senior Alicia Kierstead; third-year letters to junior Alecia Palmer and seniors Amy Grivois, Kelsey Park and Jenna Stephenson; and a fourth-year letter to senior Krista Coffin.
Girls varsity track and field coach Ron McAtee and his assistant, Mike Waugh, presented certificates to freshmen managers Haley Bouchard and Kelsey Corriveau, sophomores Brittany Burlock and Brittany Caron and junior manager Emily Wright. Garnering first-year letters were freshmen Emma Bartlett, Abbie Carrier, Samantha Simonds, Meredith Stewart and Kali Warner and sophomore Barbara Bonville. Second-year letter winners were sophomore Erica Hemphill, junior Victoria Winslow and senior Elizabeth Wright. Third-year letters went to juniors Jaylee Fox and Mackenzie Pinette; while seniors Hallie Bartlett and Jerica Fox earned fourth-year letters.
Boys varsity track and field coach Lori Googins and her assistant, Joe Greaves, honored the following certificate recipients: freshmen Duncan Billings, Scott Delong, Dakota Fox, Khyver Lowe and Joel Shay; sophomores Lucas Cyr, Tyler Maynard, Jesse Rochester and Trey Stewart; and juniors Alex Page and Seth Powers. Earning first-year letters were freshmen Thomas Freeman, Gabe Player, Jonathan Rochester and Jacob Williams; sophomores Corey Meunier, Dylan Michaud, David Paradis and Tyler Thibodeau-Grant; and juniors Brandon Gibson, Zach Lunney and Ben McKenna; and seniors Mitch Davis, Justin Lewin, Scott Mitchell, Nathaniel Postell and Ethan York. Second-year letters went to sophomores Sam Clukey, Matt Eager, Logan Good and Ben Sipe; juniors Josh Allen, Paul Elish, Justin Good, Steve Goulet and Logan Thibeau; and senior Craig Winslow.
Varsity baseball coach Tim Olore and assistant coach Tim McCue gave out certificates to freshmen Adam Flynn and managers Michael Guerrette and Gabby McCrum; and sophomores Ryley Norton, Jacob Player and Evan Waddell. Second-year letters went to sophomores Isaac LaJoie and Wilder York and seniors Zac Campbell, Keenan Eaton and manager Jordyn Kinney; a third-year letter to senior Dillon Kingsbury; and fourth-year letters to senior Ethan Braley, Matt Chasse, Amos Dean, Steve Ford and Brennen Shaw.
Matt Chasse was selected the winner of the Aaron Archer Award in baseball.
Sweatshirt recipients, who accumulated six varsity letters in any combination of sports, were Kailee Ireland (in soccer, track and field and tennis), Kyle Gilson (swimming and tennis), Kayla Richards (soccer, basketball and softball), Amy Grivois (soccer and softball), Jaylee Fox (cross country and track and field), Ethan York (cross country, swimming and track and field), Steve Goulet (soccer manager, swimming and track and field), Isaac LaJoie (soccer, hockey and baseball), Keenan Eaton (golf, basketball and baseball), Krista Coffin (basketball and softball) and Chris Cawley (cross country, skiing and tennis).

Earning jackets for lettering in one sport for four years were Madelyn Carson (tennis), Chris Cawley (tennis), Krista Coffin (softball), Ethan Braley (baseball), Matt Chasse (baseball) and Amos Dean (baseball). Other fourth-year letter winners who received their jacket for participation in a previous sport were Hallie Bartlett (track and field), Jerica Fox (track and field), Steve Ford (baseball) and Brennen Shaw (baseball).
Scholar-athlete award winners in the Aroostook League, given following the winter season, were Hallie Bartlett ad Steve Ford. Scholar-athlete award winners in the Penobscot Valley Conference, also given following the winter season, were Bartlett, Kelsey Park, Nate Ackerson and Chris Cawley.
