1910: Caribou’s Michaud holds down second base for PI club

100 Years Ago: August 11, 1910

• Prof. L.M. Felch, who has been supervisor of schools in Norway for a few years has accepted the principalship of the Caribou High School for the coming year. Mr. Felch receives the highest endorsements of Houlton residents where he taught for years at the Ricker Classical Institute.

• James Michaud of this town is playing second base for the Presque Isle team on its trip to Washington County.

• While the greater part of the hay crops has been put under cover, there are a good many acres yet to go in. The season’s is late — very late, and the rain seems to be coming right along with but a few very good hay days.

• The first car of potatoes from the 1909 crop was shipped from Caribou on Aug. 21. When will the first car go forward this year?

• A.A. Garden has moved his insurance office from the store of Bishop Bros. to the law office of Omar Farnsworth.

75 Years Ago: August 8, 1935

• In addition to Powers Peterson and Phil Hamilton, who have been asked by Arnold Peabody to play in the game against the Boston Braves in Houlton on Oct. 13, the name of Lawrence Powers has been added. Bruce Keating will be a base umpire.

• Misses Helen Bell and Lena Brown attended the dance given by Bob Johnson and his orchestra in Stockholm Friday evening.

• Blueberry excursions are the order of the day. Some are returning with 60 to 80 quarts, proving them plentiful.

• The alarm from box 31 Wednesday afternoon called the fire department to Bridge St. where a roof fire was blazing on at house owned by W.D. Hamilton. The blaze was extinguished with little damage to the roof.
