New video store open in PI

PRESQUE ISLE – Marty Allen and Tom Ellis of Bangor are no strangers to the video store industry. As the former owners of Home Vision Video and Front Row Video, which had several stores in Aroostook County in the 1990s, they are back in Presque Isle as the owners of Go Video, which opened this summer on 733 Main Street.

“When Movie Gallery closed, we knew people in the Presque Isle region would be looking for a place to rent movies and games,” said Marty Allen, “so we opened right next to the old Movie Gallery location.”
Go Video has a great selection of movies, both in DVD and Blu-ray formats; and video games for PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. In addition to rentals, Go Video sells both movies and games.
“We also have a special on selected used movies – 10 for $10,” Allen said.
The store held its grand opening Aug. 13, which featured door prizes, movie give-aways, free hot dogs, discount rentals and contests. Cast and crew members from the upcoming film “The Zombies Are Coming to Town” were also on hand for the celebration.
“Customer service is very important,” Allen added. “We are a Maine-based company and have friends and family in Aroostook County.”
With competitors such as Netflix and Red Box to contend with, Allen says local video stores have plenty to offer.
“Go Video gets movies 28 days before Netflix or Red Box,” he said. “For example, we got “Clash of the Titans” at the end of July. Netflix and Red Box will not have this title until the end of August.”
Go Video has seven employees and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday from noon-8 p.m. The phone number is 768-5480 and Go Video can also be found on Facebook.
“We feature friendly service and a great selection,” Allen said. “It is fun to go to the video store. We have a better selection than Red Box and you do not have to wait next to your mailbox for the next movie either.
“Come in and browse, find a movie that you like and take it home with you.”
