The Wilcox family and friends gathered earlier in the year to help Merle Wilcox celebrate a major milestone — his 85th birthday. Pictured, from left, in back: Marie Wilcox, Betty Wilcox, Mike Wilcox, Dave Wilcox and Richard Hebert. Kneeling in front: Sylvia (Wilcox) Hebert and, seated next to her, birthday boy Merle Wilcox. A very special supper was enjoyed recently by over 200 guests, both friends and family. He was born in Wade in 1925, the son of William and Myrtie (Drost) Wilcox, and was married to Rebecca (Philbrook) Wilcox. Merle has three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, making the Wilcox family a four-generation one. The event also included musical entertainment by members of two area bands: the Aroostook County Bluegrass and the Good Ole Boys. Merle also joined the music with his specialty, a microphone and his ability to amazingly replicate the sound of a train whistle!
