VaJoWa retained the Challenge Cup by besting Mars Hill, 35 points to 23 points. VaJoWa trailed after the first day’s singles play 21 to 19. In the second day of play, VaJoa won 8 of the 9 two-ball matches played. Each match received two points for a win and one for a tie. Getting four points each over the two days for VaJoWa were Jarice Kelley, Ken Delano, Brent Dubois, Kent Waite, Steve Merry and Scot Walker. Thanks for all who participated.
Another large group played couples golf Sunday afternoon. Finishing tied for first were Cliff Randall and David Wentworth; and Jon and Betty Smallwood. Third place went to Goldy and Jenness Gushee. Play will be held again this Sunday at 3 p.m. All are welcome.
The course continues to be in terrific condition. The foliage is just starting to get its fall splendor. This is the best time to get in a round of golf before all the leaves start dropping.
One final note on the personal side. I accomplished a rare feat, scoring an albatross while playing in the seniors tournament in Presque Isle last Wednesday.
The two on the par five ninth featured a high fade over the corner of the dogleg, then an eight iron hole out from 160 yards. The round of 67 also featured an eagle two on the 18th hole, after driving the 342 yard par four and holing a six footer.
It was the best round of golf I’ve shot in the last three or four years. It was a great way to end the senior golf season.
