SAWYER, Alice C., 82, MAPLETON, September 21, 2010. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
MAPLETON – Alice C. Sawyer, 82, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 21, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Yarmouth, February 8, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Vincent) MacNeill.
She was a 1946 graduate of North Yarmouth Academy. She was employed with The New England Fire Insurance Rating Association of Portland before moving to Mapleton in the late fall of 1947 to marry her sweetheart. At the time of her death, she was a member of State Street Baptist Church in Presque Isle.
She will be remembered by her family as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to sing praises to her Lord and Savior and play the piano at church and at home. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting when she was younger and crocheted many lap robes for the nursing homes and hospital chaplaincy as well as many afghans for her family.
She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Winfield Sawyer of Mapleton; her son, Larry and his wife, Debbie of Mapleton; and their two children, Jennifer Sawyer Buzza and her husband, Aaron; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Kay, and Julie Sawyer Powers and her husband, Zachary. She is also survived by her daughter, Connie Sawyer Duchardt and her husband, Roger of Presque Isle; and their two children, Christopher Duchardt and his wife, Melissa; and step-great granddaughter, McKenna LaFave; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Collins; and great-grandson, Isaac Duchardt; and daughter, Melinda Duchardt Corey and her husband, Brian; and great-granddaughters, Alice and Elizabeth Corey; a brother, Rev. John MacNeill of Florida; a sister, Ethel Gwyer of Florida; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Mike Shaw officiating. Relatives and friends called from 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment was in Southside Cemetery in Mapleton. Friends who wish to make donations, can make them in her memory to State Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 826, Presque Isle.
