Some political history

to set record straight

To the editor:

Mr. William P. Urban (and I use the term Mr. loosely), should take a good look in the mirror before he starts bashing anyone that happens to be a member of the Republican Party. He takes a few examples of Republicans and makes it appear that all Republicans are unpatriotic. Well, he needs to take another look at history.

My father (Howard Worthington) served 21 years in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War, I (Galen) spent 23 years in the Maine National Guard and four years in the regular Army and we are all Republicans and very patriotic. Just because a few people make bad decisions, you don’t bash everyone. You are as bad as the people you targeted with your comments.

In case you don’t remember, it was a Democrat (Bill Clinton) that hemmed and hawed so long about “taking out Bin Laden” even though he had sound intelligence regarding Bin Laden. Bin Laden escaped our clutches and we know where that got us (into a war). It was a Democrat (Jimmy Carter) that “waited and waited and waited” during the Iranian hostage crisis, refusing to act to rescue the hostages, and it wasn’t until a Republican (Ronald Reagan) got into office that the situation was resolved because nobody messed with America’s military might (under a Republican – Reagan). It was a Republican (George W. Bush) who led this country after the 9/11 attacks and openly praised our military personnel – frequently and fervently.

However, there have been many Democrats that want to take away some of the benefits awarded to people that have previously served in the military (or did you just conveniently forget to mention that fact). Get your facts straight before you start slinging the mud.

There are many, many Republicans who are proud of those that serve in the military, there are Republicans that serve in our military and are some of the most patriotic people you can find and some of the most “moral” people you can find. For all the actions of a few people which you choose to point out, there are just as many actions that have been taken by Democrats which you obviously choose to ignore.

You need to get that chip off your shoulder and learn that you can’t just group everyone under one banner. There are good and bad people all over and you can’t just say “If someone is a Republican, they’re bad” and “If someone is a Democrat, they’re good.” That’s just plain hypocritical and rude.
