The East Grand Senior Class of 2011 and the students of the After-School Program co-sponsored “Puttin’ On the Hits.”
More than 17 groups performed their lip-sync routines to a packed house at the East Grand gymnasium Feb. 15. Excitement mounted as students had makeup done, practiced their routines in the hallway and added the final touches to their costumes. The evening opened with Mrs. Susan Shain as the master of ceremonies and Lorraine Springer, Terry Barnes and Sherry Pratt as judges. The stage was perfectly decorated with a big, lit-up Juke Box that Dustin Morse had made. Songs ranged from hip hop, to classic rock to rap. Some acts had choreographed routines, others were freestyle. DJ Kevin Haggerty kept the tunes running smoothly.

PERFORM — East Grand students, from left, Kaitlyn Beaudoin, Jennifer Armstrong, Jayne Cousins and Shawna Beaudoin performed Miley Cyrus’ “Hoe Down Throw Down” during the school’s “Puttin’ on the Hits,” a collaboration of the East Grand 21st Century After-School Program and the senior class.
During intermission a most fantastic dessert auction was held with proceeds going to the Senior Class. There were trays of whoopee pies and crème puffs, frosted cakes, drizzled cakes, cakes with cookies, strawberry concoctions … one delight after another.
After the students performed their lip sync routines, the school staff had their turn. The YMCA song brought just about the entire crowd down to the floor dancing. Afterwards everyone said how pleased they were to see so many people come out and support the kids. It has been awhile since that many filled the auditorium and made a freezing, chilly night in Danforth a little warmer.
