Wildcat athletes honored

The Presque Isle Varsity Club has announced that Travis Dyer and Chelsea Nickerson were selected as athletes of the week for the week of Jan. 24-29, Adam Flynn and Kayla Richards for  Jan. 31-Feb. 5 and Oliver Zubrick and Karlee Bernier for Feb. 7-12.

Dyer scored 22 points, including the game winning free throws in the boys basketball team’s 46-44 win over MDI. Nickerson totaled 30 points in the girls team’s victories over Houlton, Fort Kent and MDI.

Flynn scored nine points during the stretch, including four assists in his hockey team’s important win over Orono. Richards connected on a half-court buzzer-beater in overtime to lead the girls varsity basketball team past Mattanawcook Academy.

Zubrick scored 31 points and had nine rebounds as the PI boys basketball team defeated Fort Kent and Caribou in the final week of the regular season. Bernier was lauded for her play throughout the season, with her outside shooting prowess and consistent play helping the girls basketball team to a 17-1 record and No. 1 seed in the Eastern Maine Class B Tournament.

Courses offered at Presque Isle pool

The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offer an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course Feb. 24,25 and 26 and March 12 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Participants will be learn how to teach Learn to Swim levels 1- 6 classes and basic water safety classes. Those signing up must be 16 year of age or older and have good  swimming skills.

A Lifeguard Instructor Course will also be offered March 27, April 3 and April 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This class will allow participants to instruct lifeguard, professional CPR/AED and community first aid classes. Participants must have a current lifeguard certificate and be at least 17 years of age.
