EMBLETON, Donald E., 93, PRESQUE ISLE, February 17, 2011. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

PRESQUE ISLE – Donald E. Embleton, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. He was born in Portage, on Dec. 10, 1917, the son of Fred and Marian (McIntyre) Embleton. He married Gladys LaDuc in 1944, and was married 60 years.

Don helped develop the atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico, during World War II. He worked as a machinist for Pratt Whitney in Conn; National Steel in California, Pinkham Lumber in Ashland, and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.

He loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by two sons and their wives: Donald C. and Holly Embleton of Mapleton, and Merle James and Susan Embleton of Winn; two daughters and their husbands: Barbara and Greg Archer of Castle Hill, and Darlene and Bob Feener of Pahrump, NV; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, in 2002; two sons, Richard D. and an infant son, Kenneth; and two brothers.

A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011, at the Mapleton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dorothy Matson officiating.
