DURING MAPLETON BROWNIE TROOP 1133’s Girl Scout cookie sale this year, troop members took orders of boxes of cookies that would be donated to a local non-profit group. This year the girls voted to donate those cookies to the Homeless Shelter in Presque Isle. At a recent meeting, Steve Eyler, interim director of Homeless Services of Aroostook, attended a troop meeting to accept the donation of 117 boxes of cookies. Pictured are, from left: Eyler, Katelyn Amero, Delaney Alward, Bethany Baker, Alexis Getchell, Jenna Mountain, Amanda Winslow, Sydney Robichaud and Madelyn Buzza. Absent when the photo was taken were troop members Alexus LaFerriere and Rebecca Rider. The troop would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of this service project.

Save your pennies

Mapleton Elementary School will be kicking off its annual penny drive for the Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C-A-N-C-E-R) golf tournament beginning Monday, April 25. Students and staff will be collecting their pennies (and other change and bills) as a fundraiser to sponsor a hole at the C-A-N-C-E-R golf tournament.

The tournament is a fundraiser to help those in treatment for cancer in our area and will be held June 4 at the Presque Isle Country Club. Donations will be collected until May 20. Last year, the school sponsored a hole and sent two teams to participate in the tournament. Anyone wishing to make a donation can stop by the school’s front office.
