Sen. Troy Jackson, (D-Allagash) right, recently welcomed Alana Margeson and her son Noah to the Statehouse. Margeson, a English teacher at Caribou High School, is one six-semi-finalist nominated to receive the 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year Award.
The Maine Teacher of the Year is an outstanding teacher who best represents the thousands of excellent educators in Maine. He or she serves as an advocate for the teaching profession, education and students.
“I was thrilled to welcome Ms. Margeson to the Statehouse” said Jackson, “and I am even happier for the students at Caribou High School. We have extraordinary teachers in this state and this award gives us a chance to recognize their work.”
The six semi-finalists will undergo an intensive selection process — which includes a school visit, a professional portfolio review and an oral presentation — before the pool is narrowed to three finalists. Those finalists will then sit for an interview before the 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year is selected. The review panels consist of past Teachers of the Year, principals, Maine Department of Education staff and members of professional education organizations and the business community.
The 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year will be announced at a surprise all-school assembly in September.
Margeson attended the ceremony with her son Noah.
