Anna Thibodeau, is all smiles after being named the 2011 Jr. Miss Poppy Queen during the afternoon event held on April 23, sponsored by the Stockholm American Legion Auxiliary.

The Junior Auxiliary members and their families were treated to lunch and a special treat of cupcakes, each adorned with a large edible poppy, made by Karla Fisher and her daughter Amber Moutinho.

Kathy Robinson, president of the Auxiliary, read “On Flanders Fields,” the story of the origin of the poppy and how it became the symbol used by the country’s disabled veterans. Since the event was held  just prior to Easter, the group also created Easter trees, decorating the branches with with colored paper eggs.

Chosen as the 2011 Miss Poppy Queen was Serena Voisine; the Junior Miss Poppy Queen title went to Anna Thibodeau; and the Little Miss Poppy Queen crown to Kammie Fisher.

The new Poppy queens will distribute poppies at various functions in the area as well as grace a float during the July 4th parade in Stockholm.
