Jerry Hammond and Bill Hovey of the Customs and Border Patrol Protection spoke to the Houlton Rotary Club at a recent meeting. Hammond showed slides of his 60-plus days working in Arizona on the US-Mexican border. While there working with his canine unit, Dorstar, he saw much more activity than he usually sees on the US-Canadian border.
The dogs are trained in Front Royal, Virginia, in a 16-week course at a cost of $28,000 and they are continually training. The Rotarians then saw Dorstar at work. These dogs are highly trained and are truly amazing. She successfully found the planted contraband.
