FIRE DESTROYED a Chevy Blazer parked near an apartment house on Flewelling Drive in Crouseville the morning of June 29. The Washburn Fire Department responded and quickly kept the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.

“We received a call at 7:49 a.m. for a vehicle on fire on Flewelling Drive. The department arrived to find a Chevrolet Blazer fully involved,” said Fire Chief Troy Heald, Washburn Fire Department.

Thick, black smoke could be seen over the treetops from the Washburn Road as motorists passed through the community.

A crew of six firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle was located a short distance from a garage and apartment complex but members of the fire department were able to keep the fire from spreading to any structures.

“The vehicle was insured and is assumed to be a total loss,” said Heald, who added

Washburn police identified the owner of the vehicle as Norberto Colon.

“It’s believed the cause is connected to the electrical system in the vehicle,” Heald said.

Doug Conroy, chief of the WPD, also assisted.
