To the editor:
Occasionally we get the privilege of observing deer, moose, bear and other animals. For two summers a fox raised her young just off my lawn. The babies would play and wrestle just like puppy dogs, and the mother worked very hard to feed them. She carried home food in the daytime, and at night before dark, she would leave the den and cross the main road on her way to hunt some more. One day she dropped a rodent for the pups, and one little pup put its nose against the mother’s face as if it was kissing the mother. Once we saw a deer stand on its hind legs to reach an apple on the tree.
I have read the state plan to improve the deer herd. Nowhere do they mention closing the season for a year or two.
