FORT FAIRFIELD — The town of Fort Fairfield is in the process of hiring a new police chief, following the current chief’s decision to “move on,” according to Town Manager Dan Foster.
“Chief Joe Bubar is moving on. He indicated to me that he’s looking for a change and will be moving out of state, to Missouri,” said Foster.
Bubar has been with the Fort Fairfield Police Department for over 20 years.
“Joe started with the department in 1990 and was promoted to chief in 1998,” said the town manager.
The FFPD includes both full- and part-time staff.
“The department has four full-time employees and a contingent of reserve officers, depending on the need. More officers are needed on different occasions, including the annual Potato Blossom Festival,” Foster said.
Town officials are currently in the process of hiring Bubar’s replacement.
“We’ve closed out the application process and the interview team was scheduled to get together Aug. 4 to review applications. From there we’ll be setting up interviews for the coming week,” said Foster.
Hopes are to be able to have the position filled by the end of the month.
“My goal is to have a recommendation to the Council on Aug. 17,” said Foster.
