Getting back to nature

To the editor:
My daughter, Crystal, was at a picnic Saturday at Pushaw Lake, near Bangor. Some of the canoeists came in from the lake and said they got real close to a loon. So she took her canoe and went out to see. She and her friend saw a loon half on the shore and half in the water. As they got closer, they saw a steel leader and fish lure caught in its mouth. So they grabbed the loon and put it in the bottom of the canoe, took it to shore, after it bit them four or five times. They got a wire cutter and cut the steel leader and removed the hook from its mouth and one more from its chest. After letting it go, it flew to the middle of the lake and flapped its wings excitedly after its freedom.
I was glad she helped release it because it could not eat that way.
