1911: 325 cars of potatoes shipped out of The County in one day

100 Years Ago Sept. 7, 1911

• The starch factories are having a light run this year; the price paid is 50 cents per barrel.

• Newman Cochran is building a new house on Bridge Street on the site of the one burned some time ago. He expects to move in as soon as it is completed.

• There were 325 cars of potatoes shipped out of the County on one day last week over the B&A Railroad lines.

• Miss Carlotta Pendell has accepted a position as stenographer in the law office of O.L. Keys.

• The farm buildings of Isaiah Wood on the Back Presque Isle Road were totally destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon together with 1,000 bushels of grain, 50 tons of hay and four pigs. There was an insurance policy of $2,000  on buildings and crop. The origin of the fire is unknown.

75 Years Ago: Sept. 3, 1936

• Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dixon of Stockholm, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday evening at their home.

• An honest-to-goodness tobacco plant has attracted much attention on the lawn of Miss Blanche Culberson on Fenderson Street. The plant which was brought from Connecticut and set out while small this spring, has grown remarkably well and is now in bloom.

• The popular Kaffe Stugan in New Sweden has had a profitable season so far, says Henry Anderson, its proprietor. The place will close for the season on Nov. 12.

• H.W. Ramsay has sold new Chevrolet trucks recently to Cecil Bennett, Elwood Noyes and LeRoy Bassett.

• Glenn Edgecomb and Buel Curry of Limestone are home now on a six-week leave from the Bolton Steel Co. of Lawrence, Mass.
