Aroostook Times
Hodgdon news — Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hand is ill with typhoid fever. Lex Vail attended the Bangor Fair.
Local — Donovan’s Boys Band sacred concert at Lakewood last Sunday was a great success and a large crowd enjoyed both the afternoon and evening concerts. George Donovan and Thos. Mooney of Fredericton, N.B. have joined the group.
Aroostook Times — John G. Chadwick has received the contract for building the new ‘home’ for the Aroostook Times and work will commence at once.
75 Years Ago-September 3, 1936
Houlton Pioneer Times
Linneus — A horse owned by Chesley Rogers was killed Sunday evening when it was struck by an automobile operated by Carroll Adams. The accident occurred shortly after dark, as the car and the double team met on the Linneus road. Neither the wagon nor the automobile had lights. Both Adams and Rogers were within about 150 yards of their destinations. Adams was going to get a new fuse for his lights, as they had gone out shortly before the accident.

Rand has just returned from four weeks of study in Missouri and Michigan, which became possible when he won the summer fellowship offered to a student of the college of agriculture, University of Maine by the Danforth Foundation and Ralston Purina Mills.
Houlton — The Houlton Pioneer Times announces a “$1,500 Shower of Gold” campaign for children.

U. of M. Extension — A branch of the Presque Isle Center of the General Extension of the University of Maine will be located in Houlton for the second semester. The branch will serve the Houlton, Danforth, Patten triangle.
Restaurant — A new restaurant was opened in Houlton by two brothers, Dana O. and Norman Craig, both natives of Brookton. The scenic restaurant is located in Market Square next to the Houlton Savings Bank.
Bar Harbor — Margaret Swallow, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. MacArthur Swallow has spent the summer feeding 35 hungry young scientists at Jackson Laboratory’s annual summer training session. Swallow is a student at the University of Maine.

Mashed potato wrestling — Join the fun at the John Millar Arena and watch Jim “the Scrooge” Peabody and Francis “the snake” Fitzpatrick take each other on in the ring. Brian Plourde, Houlton varsity basketball coach and Steve Fitzpatrick, Hodgdon varsity coach will also be participating. Proceeds are for Dollars for Scholars.
On staff — Dr. Gene W. Kilpatrick of Houlton has been appointed to the post of assistant professor of sociology at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
New name — Miss Elephant has a new name according to the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, sponsors of the community health and education program in area schools. She is now “Buffy Tuffy” a name entered by Stacie Blake, daughter of Janet and Daniel Blake, a second-grade student at St. Mary’s School.
