2-0 week for the PIHS Wildcats

The Presque Isle Wildcats have a perfect week, dropping rival Caribou on the road and stopping Old Town at home on Saturday night. The Washburn boys remain at the top of Eastern Maine Class D and

Summaries of  some  of the matches played through Saturday are as follows:

Presque Isle 5, Old Town 2 — In Presque Isle Saturday night, The Presque Isle Wildcats remain undefeated upping their record to 3-0 with a convincing win over Old Town 5-2. Presque Isle got on the board twice before Old Town scored two goals within 20 seconds right before the end of the half to tie the match. Presque Isle dominated the second half scoring three times.

Isaac Lajoie had two goals and an assist for Presque Isle. Jake Player also scored twice. Wilder York had a goal and two assists. Presque Isle outshot Old Town 25-10.

Presque Isle 4, Caribou 0 — Before a big crowd at the lower field at the Caribou High School the Presque Isle Wildcats and Caribou Vikings renewed their rivalry Thursday night.

The teams played to a scoreless tie during the first half, but the Wildcats caught fire in a seven minute span to score four goals and top Caribou 4-0. Isaac Lajoie had two goals for 2-0 Presque Isle. Wilder York added a goal and two assists. Jake Player scored the other goal. Andrew Kofstad had seven saves on nine shots.

Matt Manter stopped six of 15 shots for 0-3 Caribou.

Washburn 3, Fort Fairfield 2 — Jordan McLaughlin scored a pair of first-half goals and assisted on Mitchell Worcester’s goal as Washburn built a 3-0 lead and withstood a second-half rally by the Fort Fairfield Tigers en route to a 3-2 high school boys soccer victory Thursday. Nick Bragg also had an assist and Zach Davis made five saves on 17 shots for the 5-1-1 Beavers.

Mike McLellan and Jake Wortman scored for 1-4 Fort Fairfield and Derek Dufour made 10 saves on 20 shots.

Madawaska 4, CAHS 1 — At Mars Hill, Ian Lee tallied three goals as Madawaska remained undefeated at 5-0.

Dan Brewer scored for 2-2-2 Central Aroostook. Ross Grass saved nine of 24 shots.

Easton 4, Ashland 1 — At Presque Isle, Reid Clark had a hat trick to lead Easton to their fifth straight victory, a 4-1 verdict over the Ashland Hornets Tuesday, Aug. 30. Clark scored once in the first half as the 5-1 Bears built a 2-0 lead, then added a pair of unassisted goals after intermission. Jared Hunter also scored an unassisted goal for Easton, while Cody Tompkins made eight saves on 14 shots in goal for the Bears.

Michael Cook scored for 0-4 Ashland, while Hornets’ goalie J.J. Dozier made seven saves on 11 shots.

CAHS 3, Washburn 1 – At Mars Hill Tuesday, Brendan York scored off a Mike McClung pass with 15:55 remaining to break a 1-1 tie and give the Panthers a win over previously undefeated Washburn. Spencer Stetson added an insurance goal with 5:46 left, his second goal of the game. Dan Brewer had an assist and Ross Grass made two saves on nine shots for 2-1-2 Central Aroostook.

Mitchell Worcester scored off a Jordan McLaughlin assist for 4-1-1 Washburn.
