HOULTON — From Sept. 6 through Oct. 10, Olympia Sports customers will be invited to give $1 to the Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids program. The sporting goods chain’s goal is to raise $100,000 for pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Houlton’s Olympia Sports store, located in Dunn Furniture Plaza, 139 North St. will be participating in the event.
Now celebrating its 12th anniversary, A Chance for Kids has raised more than $10 million for Dana-Farber. This is the fourth year Olympia Sports has participated in this program along with Burger King restaurants and Walgreen’s stores.
“We are thrilled to be part of A Chance for Kids,” said Dick Coffey, president, Olympia Sports. “Each $1 gift adds up and can go a long way in helping kids and their families fight cancer.”
Since 2000, the A Chance for Kids program has helped fund pediatric cancer care at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic and fueled innovative research that has benefited young cancer patients at Dana-Farber and around the world. The funds raised by participating Olympia Sports locations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia are critical in continuing the fight against childhood cancers.
“It is because of the compassion and generosity of companies like Olympia Sports and their customers that we are able to move forward in our quest to effectively treat cancer, with the ultimate goal of developing cures,” says Suzanne Fountain, director of the Jimmy Fund.
In return for their contributions, customers will receive a promotion card guaranteed to contain a prize, including TNT Vacations to The Fairmont Southampton, Bermuda resort; American Airlines® tickets; Six Flags® tickets; Water Country® tickets; BURGER KING® food prizes, Walgreens prizes, and Olympia Sports prizes.
