OAKFIELD— Looking for a place to safely store extra things that just don’t fit into your home? Or maybe a move is in your future and you need a temporary place to put your household items. Either way, the recently opened River Road Storage facility in Oakfield may be just the place for you.
Barbara and Philip Branscombe opened the self-storage facility located on 135 River Road in Oakfield in late August. The business features up to 21 10-foot by 10-foot storage units. Some of those units can be expanded to 10-foot by 20-foot units and there is also a 20-foot by 20-foot unit available.

“My husband was the one that wanted to do this and after we looked into it a bit, we decided this would be a really good business venture,” Barbara said. “There were no self-storage units in the Oakfield area, and a lot of the ones in Island Falls are full.”
Nearly anything, except for hazardous materials, can be contained in the self storage units, Barbara said. Items such as furniture, snowsleds, ATVs and sometimes a vehicle may be stored in the sheds.
“This is a pretty low-labor business to own and the convenience for the people in the area was another selling point for us,” she added.
The Branscombes have a zero liability contract that customers must sign, which places all of the responsibility on the individual person for items stored in the sheds. Customers can take out insurance on their shed if they so desire. Customers must sign a monthly contract.
The steel building was erected on the Branscombes property and went up quickly, she said. For more information on the storage sheds, contact the Branscombes at 757-7111 or 538-0027 or via e-mail at a1groundwork@hotmail.com.
