UMPI women improve on hot streak

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s soccer team returned to the win column over the weekend with a pair of victories.

On Saturday the host Owls scored early and often against an undermanned Fisher College team. Fisher only had eight healthy players to start the game and lost another minutes into the game due to a knee injury.

UMPI would go on to post a 14-0 win. Junior Lainey Herring of Houlton had three goals on the afternoon, as did Desiree Smith. Also scoring a goal was Chelsea Lynds-Beaulieu of Presque Isle and Audra Kirk of Limestone.

On Sunday UMPI hosted SUNY-Canton drawing first blood only five minutes into the contest when Herring took the carom off a shot from Smith and drove it into the back of the net.

At the 17:34 mark, Owls midfielder Chelsea Beauchemin blasted a bullet from 25 yards out on a free kick that found the upper back corner and gave UMPI a 2-0 advantage.

UMPI would win 3-0.
