Twins Morgan and Vance Gustin of Southern Aroostook Community School were nominated for the Wendy’s Heisman High School Award.
The Gustins are the children of Randy and Lynn Gustin of Merrill.
Morgan was chosen as the girls state winner on Nov. 4, making her one of 102 statewide. She was the recipient of a silver medal, Heisman patch and a $50 Wendy’s gift card. Morgan’s name is now being considered by a judging panel, which will select 12 national finalists from the state winners. The national finalists include a senior male and one senior female from each of the six geographic Heisman regions.
National finalists receive an invitation to the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program on Heisman Memorial Trophy Weekend, Dec. 9-11, along with the National Awards Banquet on Dec. 10, in New York City. Finalists receive a gold medal, Heisman patch, a $2,000 award donated to the winners’ high school in the student’s name and a $100 Wendy’s gift card.
The top two national award winners are the recipients of national honor and recognition during ESPN’s national telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation, Dec. 10, along with a Wendy’s High School Heisman Trophy, Heisman Patch, $10,000 award donated to the winners’ high schools in the students’ names and a $500 Wendy’s gift card.
Morgan’s brother Vance was also was the school recipient of the Wendy’s Heisman Award. He received a school winner certificate and Heisman patch. Vance was nominated as one of the 20 state finalists, as well.
