KAMDEN BATES, right, a seventh-grader at Presque Isle Middle School, invited his great-grandfather, Jim Taylor of Westfield, to attend last Thursday’s honorary Veterans Day presentation held at the school.

Hosted by the seventh-grade teachers, the program included the playing of patriotic songs by the PIMS band, the reading of “America’s White Table” and a flag-folding demonstration. Bates said he wanted his great-grandfather to attend as a way “to honor him as a veteran so they don’t think that we forgot. We will never forget what they did for our country. To me, Veterans Day means sacrificing for something greater … for peace.” Taylor served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

A story and more photos from the Veterans Day program will appear in an upcoming issue of The

Star-Herald.
