Aroostook Times
Monticello — Robert Wood who sold his farm to B.S. Foster last fall, has bought a farm from J.M Foster and also a share in Abner Cowperthwaite’s farm.
Local — A gale on Wednesday night did considerable damage to the shade trees and the electric light wires. The flag pole on the Dunn Furniture Block was blown down and a large plate glass window in Hamilton & Clark Co.’s store was broken by a flying sign.
Linneus — Miss Lalia Hall entertained a number of her friends at her home one evening last week. The evening was spent playing games and at a late hour they departed for home pleased with the evenings enjoyment.

Business — Sam M. Boutilier, connected with Chadwick the florist for nearly 14 years, this week purchased the Newell Greenhouse on Riverside Street and will soon open it for business.

Local — Miss Gladys Bither, teacher in the Longfellow School has been confined to her home with mumps during the week. Mrs. Cora Hogan has been substituting in her classroom during her absence.
Monticello — Friends of Mrs. Hilston Carpenter (Genevive Porter) of Portland, will be interested to learn that she recently won first award of $10 in a song-guessing contest, sponsored by Scott Furriers of Portland

Appreciation Day Banquet — Houlton Regional Development Corporation has earned over $5 million for Houlton since it was organized, according to Aubrey A. McLaughlin. A variety of businesses were acknowledged at the Northland Hotel where over 250 guests attended a dinner and meeting.
Art Show — Mrs. Nell J. Chadwick announced a showing of artwork done by her students at the Gentle Memorial Building. Those exhibiting will be Carol Currie, Joan Hoskin, Geneva Chamberlain, Edna Arnold, Richard MacLaren and Reginald Corey.
Houlton — Frances Way, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Russell is one of 30 students selected to the “President’s Honor List” at Drake University for compiling a straight “A” grade average. Mrs. Way is a 1950 graduate of Houlton High School.

Retirement — Leo Hovey and Willard “Bill” Putnam retired from the Houlton Water Company with a combined 53 years of service.
County jail — The $2.5 million renovation project at the Aroostook County Jail is 20 percent complete, but county officials are concerned due to delays and increased costs.
New agent — Randy Lincoln of East Hodgdon has assumed the position of agent for Farm Family Life and Mutual Company.
