Houlton High School Grade 8The New Nanny
Mom hired a new nanny
We decided how we would
get rid of her
Our lives were a
living nightmare
When people were around
she was as sweet as pie
But when they weren’t
she was like the Devil
She suggested to them to put
Bars on our windows
She said that I had
been sneaking out
They bought her lie
The next day our windows
had bars on them
My electronics were taken away
They were going to Bangor
We would be left with the nanny
I told my brother the news
When they left she locked
us in my room
We banged on the door
and we screamed
After a while we quit
We said we had to use
the bathroom
She let us out we went
We came up with
a foolproof plan
We ran downstairs
She came behind us and locked the basement door
My parents had installed
cameras the day before
We walked outside and
went up to the garage
The door was unlocked
We went in and fell asleep
laying together
Our parents found us
We told them to look
at the cameras
They did then they fired her.

The Peaceful Beach
As the waves start to crash
on the beach, I walk to the ocean
to go for a swim.
The pale yellow sand feels
like pebbles in between my toes,
Kids, young and old like to run around playing in the
water and sand
The clear blue sky, and the warm soft blue ocean, surrounds me and everything else
Then a wave comes along
and crashes over my head
When I block out all sounds except the ocean, it is
absolutely peaceful
When I let the salt water take over me, I’m in my peaceful, happy place
And because the sun is blazing on my back it feels like I
have no sun block on at all
The beach is now my new home.
As I walk to my car to leave, the sun is setting behind me now missing me.

The Sneaky Gypsy
Inspired by photo: Gypsy Moth
When I see you I see a rabbit
With your ears that are
bigger than you
Your eyes are like a tornado
Never blinking
Just staring with the
mix of grey and black
Hanging on a tree branch
Why don’t you fly
You have wings but
you don’t use them
Wasteful
You do nothing but wait
Plotting your next move
No one can ever trust you
I think you know why
You’re a sneaky gypsy.

Sunset Over
The Mountain
Inspired by photo: Gorge
at Sunset
I look over my shoulder,
this is what I see
The beautiful lake shining
like a crystal
By the setting sun.
The boulders of rock,
look like they are rising
As the sun sets, the world
gets darker
The clouds swarm,
the lake calms.
The water, surrounded
The sunlight calm,
not bursting with light
As it goes down deeper,
and deeper into the boulders.
The sun glimmers,
its last ray of light
As the sun goes down
the darkness comes strong
The only sound I hear,
is the soft sound of the wind as it moves the lake around.
The dark, darkens the water,
the boulder, the sun
As the rays of light leave
So do I.

The Beach
BOOM! Crash, Bang!
The waves crashing down.
People yelling
because they’re excited.
People running on the beach.
Children riding the waves.
Watch Out you may get
sand in between your toes.
The water is probably chilly.
Don’t get pulled under water.
Oh that picnic food smells good.
Children are building
and stepping on
each other’s sand castles.
If you swallow water
it tastes disgusting.
Oh I love the beach.

The Sense of the Beach
I can feel the
Aftermath of the crashing wave rolling onto my feet
Waves brushing my toes before returning to the sea
Warm sand sliding beneath my feet with every step I take
Sun warming my back as I play
What permeates the air is the
Salty smell when I arrive
Sugary scent of the soda
that floats towards us
Sunbathed clothing
surrounding us
Sweat on the bodies
of busy children
The sounds that ring out around me are the
Violent crashing of the waves against the surrounding rocks
Silly giggles from the mouths of playful families
Hum of the boats’ motors
in the distance
Chips being crushed by the jaws of our fellow beachcombers
My tongue discovers
the taste of the
Sweet and sour sensation
of our homemade lemonade
Bitter saltiness
of the ocean water
Displeasing sand that hopped into my mouth during play
Stomach satisfying sandwiches shoved hurriedly
into our mouths
Senses always amplify the sweet sensation of the beach

The Beach
The hot sand between my toes
The salty ocean air assaulting my senses
The laughter of children playing in the brine
The seagulls circling overhead
Surfers so far out in the water
The waves crashing
against the sand
Again and again
Thrill seekers jumping
off of the tall cliffs
Into the water below
Just another day at the beach

The Cove
The shining sun
Reflecting on the water
Trees surrounding in the cove
The smooth water so clear
Almost showing
a design in the water
Nothing around looking so quiet
Breezy winds
hitting against the haze
So foggy in the distance
Seeing the shadows
from faraway
What a beautiful sight

Day At the Beach
cool waves crashing
into the shore
sand between my toes
making sand castles
the smell of sunscreen
crowded all around
sun beating down hot all around
seashells laying all over
packing up to go home
after we grab a bite to eat
after a long day we head home

Karate
My arm goes towards
my nemesis
Going for the win
One point lead
Competition is tough
Going for first place
I swing my arm
I get a point
Match is all tied up
The next point wins
He swings his arm
He hits my head
My nemesis
Disqualified

The Beach
Kids screaming
as they run to the water
people dreaming
as they sleep on towels
sea gulls screech
as they fight for food
the smell of the salt water
tickling your nose
Thunder Hole
has the sound of a gun
the feeling of the sand
as you walk in it
people complaining
that the water is too cold
oh gosh it tastes so bad
the salt water in my mouth
people racing to the water
and trip and fall
kids in the water,
playing with a ball
