GOP Chairman, Secretary of State
meet with Aroostook Republicans
CARIBOU — Maine GOP Chairman Charles Webster and Maine Secretary of State Charles Summers recently met with members of the Aroostook County Republican Committee (ACRC) on March 17 .
During the meeting, Summers, who is also a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, addressed Republican Town Committee representatives and members of the Aroostook County Republican Committee from the St. John Valley, central Aroostook and southern Aroostook as well as members of the Aroostook County Delegation to the Maine Legislature.
Speaking to the Aroostook County Republicans, Summers said he supports limited government, free enterprise, individual rights and accountability and believes that the U.S. Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution are divinely inspired documents of individual freedom. His campaign for the primary nomination for the U.S. Senate will focus on reducing our national debt and balancing our national budget.
Secretary Summers is a commander in the United States Naval Reserve currently assigned to the public affairs staff of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey.
Maine GOP Chairman Charles Webster also spoke to the Aroostook County Republicans.
“Webster has been the most successful fundraiser and candidate recruiter for the Republican Party in decades,” said Hayes Gahagan, Chairman of the ACRC. As the person most credited with delivering a Republican majority in the Maine House and Maine Senate, Webster said that Aroostook County will be a major focus for Republicans in the 2012 election. Webster noted that the slate of candidates for Aroostook County, especially in the St. John Valley, are among the best in the state.
“Following our recent regional caucus events, we have a very active Aroostook County Republican Committee,” said Gahagan. “More than half of our new members are new to the grass-roots political process; many have been inspired by the candidacy of Congressman Ron Paul, who won the recent Presidential Poll with 59 percent of the vote representing northern, central and southern Aroostook County towns,” Gahagan added.
